Stuart Wuttke is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in constitutional, Indigenous, and administrative law. Over the last twenty years, Mr. Wuttke has played a key role in advancing the legal and political interests of First Nations across Canada. His work focuses on advocating for First Nations rights, treaty enforcement, and policy reform at the highest levels of government and judiciary.
A citizen of the Garden Hill First Nation, Mr. Wuttke brings a deep personal commitment to justice and reconciliation. He has represented First Nations before federal and provincial courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has contributed to landmark cases affecting First Nations sovereignty, land rights, and governance. Mr. Wuttke advanced the child welfare compensation settlement agreement related to discrimination against First Nations children. He currently serves as the chairperson of the Settlement Implementation Committee. Mr. Wuttke has also served on two expert panels for the World Intellectual Property Organization relating to Indigenous traditional knowledge, genetic resources and folklore.
Mr. Wuttke was called to the Bar of Manitoba in 1996 and Ontario in 2006. With twenty-nine years of legal experience, Stuart Wuttke is recognized not only for his legal expertise but also for his collaborative approach in building relationships between First Nations communities, government institutions, and legal stakeholders. His dedication to First Nations self-determination continues to shape the landscape of Canadian law and policy.
